Fashionable Dos and Donts of White House State Dinner

25 Nov

I love Inga Guen’s advice to the Politico reporter. She represents establishment Washington in such a sweet way, her accent is divine.

Of course Michelle Obama wore exactly the opposite of Inga Guen’s suggestions, opting for a beautiful cream offset with silver strapless gown (gotta show those guns!)

The Obamas and Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, and his wife, Gursharan Kaur

The Obamas are so in love! The First Lady is wearing custom made Naeem Khan, an Indian American designer

Props to White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers for organizing the event and arriving in daring Comme des Garcons

Naeem Khan appeared on Larry King live last night and spoke about what an honor it was for the First Lady to wear his dress.

Mr. Khan relayed that he designed 3 or 4 gowns for the event, which were coordinated through Ikram Goldman in Chicago. The brief had been “Indian, chic, simple, but very glamorous.” With that, Mr. Khan chose the color, embroidery, cut and all other aspects of the gowns. He called the moment of seeing the first lady in his design, “So joyous,” continuing, “For me to be part of this historic occasion, being Indian, it is beyond amazing. It is an incredible moment for me.”
